Democrats have welcomed a New York jury finding former President Donald Trump guilty on all 34 counts in his hush money trial.

From Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA), who investigated Trump as chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, to Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI), who sits on the Senate Judiciary Committee, Democrats from both chambers embraced Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg‘s success after a six-week trial.

TRUMP GUILTY IN MANHATTAN HUSH MONEY CASE

“Guilty,” Schiff wrote on social media Thursday. “Today, 12 ordinary American citizens found a former president guilty of dozens of felonies. Despite his efforts to distract, delay, and deny — justice arrived for Donald Trump all the same. And the rule of law prevailed.”

“Boom,” Whitehouse posted.

Squad member Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-NY) also responded with a sound effect, writing “Bong! Today, our justice system beat Donald Trump!” Bowman is in the middle of a competitive primary over his criticism of Israel amid its war against Hamas and for illegally pulling a fire alarm to delay a vote on a spending bill.

Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA), who like Schiff was removed from the House Intelligence Committee by former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, added Trump’s conviction was “not a win for any single person.”

“It’s a win for an idea,” he wrote. “The idea that we all follow the same rules. The rule of law won today.”
President Joe Biden, himself, shared a hyperlink soliciting money for his campaign, though his aides simultaneously circulated a longer, more nuanced statement.

“Donald Trump has always mistakenly believed he would never face consequences for breaking the law for his own personal gain,” Biden campaign communications director Michael Tyler told reporters. “But today’s verdict does not change the fact that the American people face a simple reality.”

“Convicted felon or not, Trump will be the Republican nominee for president,” Tyler wrote. “The threat Trump poses to our democracy has never been greater. He is running an increasingly unhinged campaign of revenge and retribution, pledging to be a dictator ‘on day one’ and calling for our Constitution to be ‘terminated’ so he can regain and keep power. A second Trump term means chaos, ripping away Americans’ freedoms and fomenting political violence – and the American people will reject it this November.”

Bragg alleged Trump falsified business records to cover up payments he made to former porn star Stormy Daniels through his personal attorney Michael Cohen in exchange for her silence concerning a sexual encounter they had in 2006 before the 2016 election.

Trump’s lawyers have indicated they would appeal any verdict, including on the grounds that he could not have received a fair trial in liberal New York City.
