Rep. Al Green (D-TX) announced on the House floor that he will be bringing articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump for his proposal to have the United States take over Gaza.

“The movement to impeach the president has begun,” Green said Wednesday. “I rise to announce that I will bring articles of impeachment against the president for dastardly deeds proposed and dastardly deeds done.”

On Tuesday evening, Trump said in a joint press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that the U.S. would like to take over the Gaza Strip. He expressed hope in reinventing the region to create a “Riviera of the Middle East.”

“The U.S. will take over the Gaza Strip, and we will do a job with it too,” Trump said. “We’ll own it and be responsible for dismantling all of the dangerous unexploded bombs and other weapons on the site. Level the site and get rid of the destroyed buildings. We will create an economic development that will supply unlimited numbers of jobs and housing for the people of the area, do a real job, do something different.”

The Gaza Strip was devastated by a war with Israel and the overall damage caused by the terrorist organization Hamas, which caused death, fear, and destruction in the region.

“Ethnic cleansing is not a joke, especially when it emanates from the president of the United States, the most powerful person in the world when he has the ability to perfect what he says. Ethnic cleansing in Gaza is no joke, and the prime minister of Israel should be ashamed knowing the history of his people,” Green said.

“Injustice in Gaza is a threat to justice in the United States of America,” he added.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt explained Wednesday that the president expected neighboring countries to help “step up” with the efforts to rebuild the Gaza Strip and to accept Palestinian refugees.

Leavitt did not commit to U.S. troops going to Gaza as the plans are still being developed with key leaders in the region but reiterated that the area was currently “uninhabitable.”

Green has been a longtime proponent of impeachment efforts against Trump. He first initiated impeachment articles in 2017 at the beginning of his first term and is planning to do it again.

Democratic lawmakers protested this week outside the USAID building and the Treasury in revolt against the president’s executive actions and Elon Musk’s DOGE work to cut government waste and inefficiency.
