Donald Trump is the overwhelming favorite to secure the Republican 2024 presidential nomination. He's increased his lead over Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) to over 40 points in the latest poll.

The Morning Consult poll of 3,571 potential Republican primary voters, conducted May 12 through 14, showed Trump's largest margin yet. The former president's share of support among GOP voters is at 61%, with DeSantis trailing in second place at 18%.

The rest of the candidates and potential contenders attained single-digit support, including former Vice President Mike Pence, who holds 6%.

Republican operatives recently launched a super PAC, the Committed to America PAC, backing Pence’s possible GOP run.

Former Gov. Nikki Haley (R-SC) and Republican entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy are currently tied, each holding 4%.

The poll comes after Trump blasted DeSantis in an interview with the Messenger Monday. "He's got no personality. And I don't think he's got a lot of political skill, on his policy and personality," DeSantis said.

The comments followed DeSantis informally taking aim at Trump and saying the Republican Party has created a "culture of losing" over the weekend at a rally in Iowa.

Trump has dominated in 2024 GOP primary polls against his hypothetical GOP opponent, who is poised to announce his presidential bid soon.
