NextImg:Trump DHS immigration crackdown in Chicago nets huge results

More than 800 illegal immigrants have been rounded up and arrested by federal police from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the Border Patrol during a September operation targeting Illinois and Chicago.

The Department of Homeland Security announced on Wednesday afternoon that federal agents and officers deployed to the blue state as part of Operation Midway Blitz since Sept. 8 have arrested more than 800 people illegally residing in the United States.

“The Trump Administration will not allow violent criminals or repeat offenders to terrorize our neighborhoods or victimize our children and innocent Americans,” DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said in a statement. “We will not allow sanctuary politicians or violent rioters to stop us from enforcing the law and arresting pedophiles, murderers, gang members, rapists, and domestic abusers from American communities.”

Among the 800 people arrested in three and a half weeks are gang members and criminals convicted of statutory rape, fraud, aggravated criminal sexual assault, domestic violence, and other serious offenses.

ICE launched Operation Midway Blitz in honor of Katie Abraham, an Illinois woman who was killed in a drunk-driving hit-and-run by driver Julio Cucul-Bol. Cucul-Bol is an illegal immigrant.

Late last week, Border Patrol sent an unspecified number of agents to Chicago and Portland due to violence outside ICE facilities after a mass shooting that killed one detainee and injured two others in Dallas last week.

Border Patrol agents were spotted over the weekend in Chicago, walking downtown on Michigan Avenue.

PENTAGON WILL NOT FURLOUGH MILITARY TROOPS STATIONED AT U.S.-MEXICO BORDER

Gov. JB Pritzker (D-IL) stated at a recent press conference that “none of what [President] Trump is doing is making Illinois safer.”

Federal law enforcement officers who have been temporarily deployed to Chicago will remain there during the government shutdown, which began early Wednesday morning after the Senate failed to reach an agreement on a short-term spending package.
