President Donald Trump will not impose tariffs on Mexico for at least a month as the two sides continue to negotiate on how to counter illegal immigration and drug trafficking at the border.
Trump said Mexico agreed to new terms after a “friendly” conversation on Monday.
In a post on social media, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said Mexico would deploy 10,000 national guard troops to the shared border and that the U.S. would do more to stop the flow of illegal weapons into Mexico.
Trump’s 25% tariffs against Mexico were set to be imposed early Tuesday morning.
Trump’s conversations with Canada, who also faces tariffs, are ongoing.
This is a breaking news story and will be updated.
