President Donald Trump cheered the Kansas City Chiefs after the team won its third straight AFC championship but did not congratulate the Philadelphia Eagles for winning the NFC championship.
The Chiefs beat the Buffalo Bills 32-29 Sunday night. Earlier in the day, the Eagles defeated the Washington Commanders 55-23 in Washington’s first trip to the conference championship game since 1992.
“Congratulations to the Kansas City Chiefs. What a GREAT Team, Coach, Quarterback, and virtually everything else, including those fantastic FANS, that voted for me (MAGA!) in record numbers,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “Likewise, congratulations to the Buffalo Bills on a tremendous season. They will do a lot of winning long into the future!!!”
Meanwhile, the Eagles, who are heading to the Super Bowl for the first time in two years, did not receive praise from the president.
The Super Bowl winner is traditionally invited to the White House afterward to meet the president.
When the Eagles last won the big game in 2018, President Donald Trump did not invite the team to the White House. Instead, Trump held an event in which the United States Marine Band and the Army Chorus performed the national anthem on the White House South Lawn. Trump sang along with his hand over his heart and encouraged all to stand for the national anthem, which was an obvious slight to the league, which was dealing with players kneeling for the anthem across the season. None of the Eagles knelt during any game that season or since.

Former first lady Jill Biden, who is known for her love of the Eagles, attended the Eagles loss to the Chiefs that year. Earlier in the same season, fans booed her at Lincoln Financial Field at the end of a pregame in October. On that day, she attended the Eagles game against the Dallas Cowboys as part of the NFL’s cancer initiative, called the “Crucial Catch” campaign. Before the game, she met with cancer patients, survivors, and their families.
Both teams had very similar seasons this year. The Chiefs had a 15-2 record, while the Eagles held strong at 14-3. The Chiefs are favored to win the Super Bowl by 1.5 points, giving them a shot at the NFL’s first Super Bowl three-peat.
