NextImg:Trump campaign mocks DeSantis campaign's 'failure to launch'

A campaign supporting former President Donald Trump mocked the launch of Gov. Ron DeSantis's (R-FL) presidential campaign.

DeSantis announced the launch of his campaign via a Twitter Space with Twitter CEO Elon Musk on Wednesday. It was planned to take place at 6 p.m., but the number of listeners appeared to overwhelm Twitter and resulted in technical difficulties that blocked many from entering the space. The space eventually shut down altogether.

AMERICA ISN’T READY FOR THE ERA OF AI NATIONAL SECURITY THREATS

Trump's campaign took advantage of the situation, claiming that the mishap showed that DeSantis was "clearly not ready for prime time."

"Ron DeSantis' botched campaign announcement is another example of why he is just not ready for the job," Trump-aligned Make America Great Again Inc. spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt said in a press release titled "Failure to Launch."

"The stakes are too high, and the fight to save America is too critical to gamble on a first-timer who is clearly not ready for prime time. President Trump is the proven leader that will be ready on day one to turn the country around."

The release echoes earlier statements by the Trump administration that bashed DeSantis's decision to launch his campaign via a Twitter space, claiming it was "out of touch."

"This is one of the most out-of-touch campaign launches in modern history," Leavitt said Tuesday. "The only thing less relatable than a niche campaign launch on Twitter, is DeSantis' after party at the uber-elite Four Seasons resort in Miami. Everyday more and more Americans are realizing just how out of step Ron DeSantis is with their values and how unelectable he really is."

More than 400,000 Twitter users attempted to tune in to DeSantis's announcement Space after 6 p.m., only for it to crash suddenly. The Space shut down about 20 minutes after the initial launch, with a recording left on the server. In it, Musk and Silicon Valley investor David Sacks speak to each other, but DeSantis fails to say a word. It wasn't until a second Space with a smaller audience was launched that the program was successful.

"The servers are straining somewhat," Musk said about the difficulties.
