Former President Donald Trump's campaign painted a bleak picture of the state of the country in a new spot.

Paying homage to an iconic ad from former President Ronald Reagan, the spot titled "Mourning in America" ticked off a myriad of problems afflicting the country, such as stubborn inflation, a surge at the southern border, transgender athletes competing in female sports, and more.

BIDEN HOLDS SLIM LEAD OVER TRUMP AND DESANTIS IN NEW POLL

"It's mourning again in America. And thanks to Joe Biden, our borders are now wide open for all to come," a narrator declared in the ad. "Why would we ever accept the incompetence and weakness of Biden when we could have the freedom, security, and economic prosperity we enjoyed just three years ago?"

Throughout the campaign, Trump has leaned on his signature slogan of "Make America Great Again," blasting Biden for reversing the progress he claims to have made on a host of topics, such as the economy and immigration.

The new ad takes inspiration from an optimistic spot during Reagan's 1984 election campaign titled "It’s Morning Again in America." That ad featured upbeat music and cast a rosy outlook on the country, touting the great strides Reagan claimed the middle class made during his presidency.

The Trump campaign ad took a much darker approach with dramatic background music and dreary imagery.

"Our schools, free from parental involvement. Mediocre male athletes now given the opportunity to compete unfairly. Under Biden's unprecedented inflation, the hope of homeownership gone and young adults forced to abandon seeking the American dream to live in their parent's basement longer," the narrator said.

Biden's campaign has similarly set high stakes ahead of the 2024 election, with the president himself warning that "freedom and democracy are on the line."

Surveys show there may be a tight race ahead, with a recent Yahoo News / YouGov poll showing Biden besting Trump 45% to 43% — close to the margin of error.
