Former President Donald Trump praised newly declared GOP presidential candidate Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC), taking the opportunity to throw a jab at another 2024 contender in the Republican Party.

Trump said Scott is a "big step up" from Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) and wished the newest presidential candidate "good luck" in the campaign.

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT TIM SCOTT AHEAD OF HIS BIG 2024 ANNOUNCEMENT

"Good luck to Senator Tim Scott in entering the Republican Presidential Primary Race. It is rapidly loading up with lots of people, and Tim is a big step up from Ron DeSanctimonious, who is totally unelectable. I got Opportunity Zones done with Tim, a big deal that has been highly successful. Good luck Tim!" Trump said.

Scott announced his presidential bid at an event in North Charleston, South Carolina, on Monday, pitching his campaign on hopefulness for the country's future.

"Our nation, our values, and our people are strong. But our president is weak. America is not a nation in decline. But under Joe Biden, we have become a nation in retreat," Scott said at his campaign launch event.

Scott filed paperwork to run for president with the Federal Election Commission last week after launching a presidential exploratory committee in April. With Scott's announcement, there are two South Carolinians vying for the presidency on the Republican side, with the other being former Gov. Nikki Haley (R-SC).

Trump has a solid lead over the GOP primary field, with DeSantis the closest behind, while all other candidates are far behind the two Florida Republicans.

DeSantis is expected to announce a presidential run later this week after months of speculation that the Sunshine State governor would enter the race.
