Former President Donald Trump bashed former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie's presidential campaign announcement Tuesday, calling him a "failed governor."
Christie's long-shot campaign was greeted by the Republican front-runner with a stern denouncement. Trump took issue with Christie's choice of descriptor for the state of the country, suggesting that it shows Christie has a "psychological problem." He also said the announcement was boring and attacked the former New Jersey governor's record.
INFLATION ISSUE STILL LOOMS FOR BIDEN DESPITE PROGRESS
"How many times did Chris Christie use the word SMALL? Does he have a psychological problem with SIZE? Actually, his speech was SMALL, and not very good," Trump wrote on the social media site Truth Social.
"It rambled all over the place, and nobody had a clue of what he was talking about. Hard to watch, boring, but that’s what you get from a failed Governor (New Jersey) who left office with a 7% approval rating and then got run out of New Hampshire. This time, it won’t be any different!" he added.
Christie spent a significant portion of his announcement attacking Trump and contrasting himself favorably with him. He began his announcement by assessing whether the country should become "bigger" or "smaller," which Trump apparently took issue with. Christie said Trump, like former President Barack Obama, made the country "smaller."
Christie again went after Trump during the question and answer segment of his announcement, mockingly imitating Trump on the 2016 campaign trail, lamenting that he didn't "confront" the former president then and there.

"It was a mistake, in 2016, not to confront Donald Trump early because I knew that so much of what he said was complete baloney. Like I knew it. 'I am going to build the greatest, most wonderful wall across the entire Mexico border, and Mexico is gonna pay for it,'" Christie said, doing his best to imitate Trump mockingly. "Well, like, I knew as someone who had governed that that was complete bull, But I was like, people aren't gonna believe that — they're not gonna believe that. Mistake!"
