Donald Trump's attorney Alina Habba accused Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis of being a "corrupt DA" in anticipation of her indictment against the former president.
Atlanta's Pryor Street SW between MLK Jr. Drive and Mitchell Street will be closed beginning Monday at 5 a.m. until Aug. 18 because it is the nearby road of the Fulton County Courthouse, where Willis is expected to file an indictment against Trump, as recommended by the grand jury. The grand jury has not yet delivered a decision. However, Habba pointed to the road closures as a likelihood that the indictment will come.
"I think if you look at the barricades, the fact that she’s got her PR team doing fresh pictures for her, it’s a good indicator that Fani wants her moment, and she will get on the bandwagon with the rest of the corrupt DAs and AGs that we’ve seen out of this country," Habba said.
Habba addressed the mounting legal fees in Trump's three current indictments, as she is the general counsel of his super PAC. She confirmed "tens and tens of millions of dollars" have been spent but insisted that Trump is "independently wealthy." The attorney repeated Trump's financial commitment made at rallies in which he has said: "If I have to spend my own money, I will."
However, Habba was less confident about the current trial dates set for 2024 because of the special clearance needed for the attorneys to participate in a trial with classified documents at the center.
"It’s a poorly planned attack, frankly, because that’s what it is, it’s political lawfare. And [Jack Smith] didn’t think it through. So, I think these are going to take a lot longer," Habba said. "Look at Fani, two years. She’s bringing this case now? Why? Because of election interference. They want to keep [Trump] tied up in trials, keep his lawyers tied up so that we're distracted and not focused. It’s not gonna work, he is a machine, and he knows what he’s doing in a campaign."

Should an indictment come from Willis, it would be the former president's fourth.
Willis has served as district attorney since 2020. While she had a Democratic opponent in the primary election, she ultimately ran unopposed in the general election. She is up for reelection next year.
