Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and former President Donald Trump met on Monday to discuss “national unity” after Trump survived an attempted assassination.

Kennedy and Trump met Monday during the Republican National Convention to talk about unifying the country, according to Kennedy’s campaign.

“Mr. Kennedy met with President Trump on Monday to discuss national unity, and he hopes to meet with leaders of the Democratic Party as well,” Kennedy campaign press secretary Stefanie Spear told the Washington Examiner.

She added that contrary to rumors floating around, Kennedy will continue his candidacy for the presidency, “and no, he is not dropping out of the race. He is the only pro-environment, pro-choice, anti-war candidate who beats Donald Trump in head-to-head polls.”

Kennedy reaffirmed he was not dropping out of the race as a result of the conversation, posting on X, “No, I am not dropping out of the race.”

The news of the meeting comes as President Joe Biden granted Kennedy Secret Service protections in the aftermath of the assassination attempt on Trump.
