The State Department is reviewing millions of visas for possible revocations or deportable violations of immigration rules.

The department will review more than 55 million visas Thursday as the Trump administration continues cracking down on people living in the country illegally.

“We review all available information as part of our vetting, including law enforcement or immigration records or any other information that comes to light after visa issuance indicating a potential ineligibility,” the department said.

The department told the Associated Press that all U.S. visa holders are subject to “continuous vetting” with an eye toward any indication that they could be ineligible for the document.

If such information were found, the visa would be revoked and the person would be subject to deportation if they were located in the United States. The department will be surveying for ineligibility signs such as visa overstays, criminal activity, threats to public safety, engaging in any form of terrorist activity, or providing support to a terrorist organization.

Pulling visas would help the administration meet its deportation goals. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has also targeted student visas, revoking more than 6,000 since January.

A senior State Department official confirmed to the Washington Examiner that each student visa was revoked “because the individual has either broken the law or expressed support for terrorism while in the United States.”

“About 4,000 visas alone have been revoked because these visitors broke the law while visiting our country, including records of assault and [driving under the influence],” they added.

The new visa review is an expansion of the previous student visa scrutiny.

It’s unclear how many visas will be revoked by the Trump administration in the new review, but the number could reach into the millions.
