The Trump administration blocked the admission of new international students into Harvard University as the president engages in a wider feud with the school.

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem chastised administrators in a letter for failing to properly address the Trump administration’s concerns over antisemitism, infiltration from the Chinese Communist Party, and diversity, equity, and inclusion policies. The administration revoked Harvard’s Student and Exchange Visitor Program certification.

“As I explained to you in my April letter, it is a privilege to enroll foreign students, and it is also a privilege to employ aliens on campus,” Noem wrote. “All universities must comply with Department of Homeland Security requirements, including reporting requirements under the Student and Exchange Visitor Program regulations, to maintain this privilege.”

“As a result of your refusal to comply with multiple requests to provide the Department of Homeland Security pertinent information while perpetuating an unsafe campus environment that is hostile to Jewish students, promotes pro-Hamas sympathies, and employs racist ‘diversity, equity, and inclusion’ policies, you have lost this privilege,” she added.

Current international students must transfer to another university to maintain their nonimmigrant status.

“This action should not surprise you and is the unfortunate result of Harvard’s failure to comply with simple reporting requirements,” Noem wrote.

The letter detailed the back-and-forth between Harvard and the administration. Noem said Harvard’s actions in the exchanges indicated an unwillingness to cooperate.

“Consequences must follow to send a clear signal to Harvard and all universities that want to enjoy the privilege of enrolling foreign students, that the Trump Administration will enforce the law and root out the evils of anti-Americanism and antisemitism in society and campuses,” she wrote.

Noem gave Harvard a 72-hour window to provide certain information and cooperate with the administration to keep its certification for the upcoming academic year.

NYU TO WITHHOLD DIPLOMA FROM STUDENT WHO SPOKE ABOUT GAZA IN GRADUATION SPEECH

After taking office on Jan. 20, President Donald Trump has cracked down on universities’ approach to campus protests over the war in Gaza, which has brought issues of free speech and antisemitism to the forefront of national dialogue. Harvard has been one of the few schools to actively resist pressure, making it an even bigger target and receiving more penalties as a result.

Several major schools, such as Columbia University, have caved to the administration’s demands. Several universities have had hundreds of millions of dollars in funds stripped over their handling of the protests.
