A recent poll found that most respondents either do not know who the leader of the Democratic Party is or believe it has no leader.
The poll found that 30% of those asked to name “the leader of the Democratic Party” answered that they “don’t know,” while 19% answered that the leader is “nobody,” according to a poll by Suffolk University and USA Today.
The pollsters asked registered voters the open-ended question and tallied results that garnered more than 1%, resulting in 12 names aside from “don’t know” and “nobody.”
Vice President Kamala Harris was third with 10%, according to the poll. Following her closely were House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries at 9% and former President Barack Obama at 8%.
Among Democrats, Jeffries outpolled Harris with 16% to her 15%, according to the poll, also beating the vice president and 2024 presidential hopeful with voters over 60, black people, and those who self-identify as “liberal.”
Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA), former Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) came in at 3%. President Joe Biden polled in at only 2%, the same as Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY).
