Rep. Tony Gonzales (R-TX) said on Sunday that rhetoric surrounding the Capitol riot on Jan. 6, 2021, is "absolutely out of control on both sides."
Gonzales, when pressed about former President Donald Trump's use of a song made by prisoners charged with crimes related to the Capitol riot, pivoted to talk about policy rather than the former president's rhetoric Sunday on CBS' Face the Nation.

"Jan. 6 was a terrible day. We have to make sure that never happens again. I certainly was here at the Capitol keeping folks from getting onto the house floor, but it was great to have President Trump back in Texas, and it was a reminder that Trump’s policies — President Trump’s policies worked, and right now, we’re in a time where Biden is failing us and so, you know, I welcome any serious presidential candidate to come to Texas and see it firsthand, in particular, come see the border," Gonzales said.
When pressed on if he sees any danger in the prisoners being lionized by Trump, Gonzales asserted that rhetoric on the event was "out of control."
"The rhetoric is absolutely out of control on both sides, on all sides, but I would also see — I see President Trump, honestly, being attacked and demonized on all these different fronts. Things happening to him in regards to the classified documentation, similar things happened to President Biden and you don’t see those things. I think a lot of people are done with the political rhetoric. They want solutions, and whichever presidential candidate is going to bring real solutions to their lives is going to get their vote," Gonzales said.
When further pressed on the Capitol riot, Gonzales said the riot "should never have happened," and he denounced any attacks on law enforcement.

At a rally in Waco, Texas, on Saturday, Trump played the song "Justice for All" featuring himself and the J6 Prison Choir. The song features Trump reciting the pledge of allegiance, intertwined with prisoners being charged with various crimes for their actions during the 2021 riot singing the "Star Spangled Banner."
Trump is currently facing an investigation by special counsel Jack Smith for his involvement in the riot, along with for his alleged mishandling of classified documents.
