Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AK) said Sunday that "it seems" President Joe Biden has put "more pressure" on the Israeli government than he has on the Hamas terrorist group.

Cotton argued that Biden has pressured the Jewish state to take actions that are "clearly not in Israel's interest."

"But I have to say, it seems like President Biden puts more pressure on Israel than he does on Hamas and its hosts in Qatar," Cotton said on Fox News Sunday. "Part of the reasons why we got to this point, where we had to have a four day pause, is the Biden administration has consistently, behind the scenes, insisted that Israel’s government take steps that are clearly not in Israel’s interests. For instance, providing fuel into Gaza, not just water, or food, or medicine, but fuel, which may as well be providing them with ammunition."

The Arkansas senator added that it seems that Hamas has so much contempt for Biden that it feels it is more important to release "Filipino and Thai hostages" before releasing hostages who live in the United States. Cotton described this as "one small example of the weakness" that the president has portrayed in his leadership.

Cotton's concerns on Hamas and its hostages come after the Israeli Defense Force announced Sunday that 17 more hostages were released from the terrorist group, marking the third day in a row that it has released hostages as a part of the temporary ceasefire with Israel. Among the hostages released Sunday was four-year-old Abigail Edan, an American-Israeli girl. She was the first American to be released.

Beyond aiding Israel in its war against Hamas, Congress is also looking for ways to help aid Ukraine against Russia, with Republican lawmakers additionally seeking financial aid to the U.S.'s southern border.

Cotton is one of several Republican senators who released a proposal earlier this month to enact sweeping changes to immigration law, which would attempt to limit immigrants's ability to enter or stay in the U.S. once they are apprehended and would require the president to restart border wall construction.
