Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) will unveil his plan to "crush the cartels" during his first trip to the southern border as a 2024 Republican presidential candidate Friday.

Scott's campaign announced Wednesday that the two-term senator will speak about his strategy to take down the transnational criminal organizations that make billions of dollars annually by smuggling people and drugs into the United States.

"If you don't control your back door at your house, it's not your house. If you don't control your southern border, it might not be our country," Scott said in a statement. "That's why on my first day as commander-in-chief, the strongest nation on Earth will stop retreating from our own southern border."

Scott will visit southwestern Arizona's Yuma, a city of 90,000 residents about a two-and-a-half-hour drive from Phoenix.

The candidate will host a round table discussion with local leaders and law enforcement.

The Biden administration this year began to fill in several gaps between border wall projects following pressure from Sen. Mark Kelly (D-AZ) and former Gov. Doug Ducey (R-AZ).
