NextImg:Tim Scott is making big staffing moves ahead of his likely 2024 campaign

Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) is expected to announce Jennifer DeCasper as his campaign manager as he moves toward announcing a 2024 presidential campaign later this month, a source close to the campaign confirmed to the Washington Examiner.

DeCasper, a former chief of staff for Scott, will make history as the first woman of color to head a presidential campaign once Scott jumps into the race. She made history as the Senate's first black female chief of staff in 2015 before leaving to start a consulting firm in October and guiding a super PAC backing the senator.

TIM SCOTT SETS MAY 22 ANNOUNCEMENT FOR 2024 PRESIDENTIAL BID

On Sunday, Scott teased a "major announcement" on May 22 in North Charleston, South Carolina, where he is expected to launch his campaign. This comes after he launched a 2024 exploratory committee last month, inching him closer to challenging former President Donald Trump for the GOP nomination.

Scott is among the growing number of Republicans running for president in 2024, including fellow South Carolinian Nikki Haley, entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, and former Gov. Asa Hutchinson (R-AR). Former Vice President Mike Pence is another Republican who may launch a presidential bid this year. Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) has not announced a presidential run, but it is widely believed he will jump into the fray once the Florida legislative session wraps up. DeSantis is Trump's closest challenger, according to polling, as DeSantis and Trump lead all other likely 2024 hopefuls.

Scott has traveled across Iowa, New Hampshire, and his native South Carolina, all early primary states, since February, sparking rumors of a presidential run. He was first appointed to the Senate in 2012 by Haley, making him the Senate's only black Republican and the first black senator from South Carolina.

CBS News reported on DeCasper's move to chief of staff.
