Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) brushed off concerns some people have over his single status, wondering, "Why are the headlines there?"

Scott, who is running for president in the Republican 2024 primary race, was asked about his single status in an interview on Saturday night, specifically about how his donors are concerned about it. Scott said that while he currently has a girlfriend, he believes the reason the stories of people being concerned about his relationship status is because he is rising in the polls.

"The headlines are there because as I rise in the polls, as people show up at night in my town halls, it scares even my opponents," said Scott. "Everyone wants to find a way to win this race. I'm going to focus on having that optimistic, positive message delivered with a backbone and staying focused on the American people who say 'they like me a lot,' and I want to make sure to make me their president."

Scott also stated that his relationship with his girlfriend is "wonderful" and that "God has blessed me with a smart, Christian woman." He added that the public will get to meet his girlfriend "at some point."

Last month, Scott introduced a policy proposal called "Empower Parents Plan," which he intends to tout on the 2024 campaign trail. The policy proposal says as president, Tim Scott would "restore American childhood and let girls and boys be girls and boys, not guinea pigs," ban biological boys who identify as girls from competing in women's sports, and ensure the Department of Justice prosecutes acts of vandalism and threats against crisis pregnancy centers.

Scott is running against multiple other Republican candidates in the party's 2024 primary race, including former President Donald Trump, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, and business entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy. A recent poll showed almost all of the Republican candidates beating President Joe Biden in a general election, with Ramaswamy being the exception.

Trump, the front-runner of the GOP primary race, is facing multiple indictments as he runs for president again. The former president said Friday that he considers the various criminal indictments against him to be a "badge of honor."
