NextImg:Tiana Doescher predicts Youngkin turning Virginia red could pave way to RNC leadership role

The Washington Examiner's Tiana Lowe Doescher has predicted that Gov. Glenn Youngkin's (R-VA) work in Virginia could pave the way for a bigger role for him in the Republican Party down the line.

The state is hosting elections for all 140 of its legislative seats in the state House and Senate on Tuesday, with Doescher noting that Youngkin has played an active role in campaigning for Republican candidates, both in the primary and general elections.

NOVEMBER TO REMEMBER: SIX THINGS TO WATCH ON ELECTION DAY

While Doescher believes that Youngkin launching a last-minute 2024 presidential run is "more of a fantasy," she said that a variety of other options could await him, including taking charge of the Republican National Committee.

"Virginia will have a national Senate election that he is eligible to sit for," Doescher stated on Fox News's Your World with Neil Cavuto. "And with that being said, when you compare what the national GOP has done over the last six years to what Gov. Youngkin has been able to do in the last two, I could see someone like Gov. Youngkin trying to run the RNC and doing quite a better than what we’ve gotten. You know, staying out of the Trump mania, the Trump twister, is always a good strategy, and you can afford to do it on a state level."

Doescher's prediction comes after Youngkin has consistently denied a 2024 run for the White House, stating on Sunday that while he is humbled that many have considered him a potential candidate, his focus is currently on the state of Virginia, not the 2024 White House race.

Republicans are seeking to keep control of the state House and flip the state Senate on Tuesday, giving the party a majority in both legislative bodies. Besides Virginia, other states hosting elections on Tuesday are Kentucky, Ohio, Mississippi, and Pennsylvania.

The last election for the chair of RNC was held in January, in which incumbent RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel won her fourth term in the role. McDaniel scored 111 of the 167 votes cast, with 51 of the votes going to Harmeet Dhillon and four going to MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell.

Youngkin cannot seek a second consecutive term as governor of Virginia, making way for him to run for the RNC chairmanship should he choose. Alternatively, he could run in Virginia's Senate election in 2026, with the Senate seat currently occupied by Sen. Mark Warner (D-VA).
