Pennsylvania’s annual March for Life was held in Harrisburg on Monday as thousands of people who support a child in the womb’s right to life united to walk around the state Capitol.

People came from all over the state to promote pro-life policies and reject the Left’s continued efforts to exterminate pregnancies.

Speakers for the event included multiple Pennsylvania state senators and representatives and people from pro-life organizations. One of them was Dawn Fitzpatrick, executive director of March for Life.

“There are many, many pro-life people in this country and in the state of Pennsylvania,” Fitzpatrick said.

It was an important event because even though abortion is no longer the law of the land, it is still an important issue that many Democrats and left-wing politicians hope to use for political gain in elections. And despite the Dobbs decision by the Supreme Court in June 2022, it is a political fight that many on the Left still hope to win and eventually overturn. Look no further than comments posted on Twitter in 2021 by the state’s current governor, Josh Shapiro (D-PA).

“Today’s ‘March for Life’ in Harrisburg is just an anti-woman rally by a different name. They want to remove health care options during pregnancy — a time when so many already can’t access life-saving care,” Shapiro tweeted on Sept. 27, 2021. “I’ve vetoed 3 anti-choice bills. I’ll veto any others that come to me.”

Shapiro’s comments are an example of why the march is important. The Left views abortion as a method to kill babies in the womb under the guise of it being a “reproductive right” or “form of healthcare.” It’s not. Moreover, Shapiro’s war on the unborn continued during his time as governor. In August, Shapiro moved to stop funding pregnancy resource centers, organizations that provide alternatives to abortion, such as Real Alternatives.

“For decades, taxpayer dollars have gone to fund Real Alternatives. My Administration will not continue that pattern – we will ensure women in this Commonwealth receive the reproductive health care they deserve,” Shapiro said in an August statement. “Pennsylvanians made clear by electing me as Governor that they support a woman’s freedom to choose, and I will be steadfast in defending that right.”

But nothing could be further from the truth. Nicholas Luccarella is an example of someone who benefited from the program Shapiro wants to cut. He spoke to the Susquehanna Valley region’s NBC affiliate, WGAL, about how Real Alternatives helped him.

“It has nothing to do with anything on the political spectrum,” Luccarella told WGAL. “It’s about family life and making ourselves better as parents.”

Shapiro lives in a left-wing cultural and pro-choice utopia that he wants to make a reality in the Keystone State, no matter how many examples exist that such policies devastate families and communities. Shapiro wants Pennsylvanians to be conditioned to think of abortion as the only solution to unwanted pregnancies. It’s this kind of mentality that is the impetus for Pennsylvania’s pro-life march and why events such as these are still vital, essential, and necessary.

“People are going to get their voice and understand how radical the Democrat position is on that issue, especially the progressive Democrats who believe there is no abortion that should not be allowed,” said Michael Geer, CEO of Pennsylvania Family Institute.

Everyone has a right to live, and defending that right is the noblest of causes. Thousands of Pennsylvanians know that and took to the streets to promote that message. And it's a message that everyone in the state and the country should listen to.
