Former President Donald Trump‘s attempted assassin, Thomas Matthew Crooks, searched how far away Lee Harvey Oswald was from President John F. Kennedy when he assassinated him, the FBI revealed.

Speaking at a House Judiciary Committee hearing, FBI Director Christopher Wray revealed that Crooks, 20, registered for the Butler, Pennsylvania, rally on July 6 and, the same day, researched details about the Kennedy assassination.

“On July 6, he did a Google search for: ‘How far away was Oswald from Kennedy,'” Wray said. “That’s a search that’s obviously significant in terms of his state of mind. That is the same day that it appears that he registered for the Butler rally.”

Crooks flew a drone around the rally at “around 4 p.m.,” likely watching through a live feed. Based on investigators reverse-engineering the flight path, the primary purpose of the drone seems to have been to focus on what was going on behind him.

Wray said that while Crooks had explosives in his car and was carrying a detonator, he likely wouldn’t have been able to set off the explosives if he had tried to.

“It looks like because of the on/off position on the receivers, that if he had tried to detonate those devices from the roof, it would not have worked,” he said.

The FBI director said there is no evidence of any co-conspirators, and Crooks is believed to have acted alone. The shooting is being investigated as an assassination attempt and a possible act of domestic terrorism.
