Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) accused Attorney General Merrick Garland of perjuring himself during a House Judiciary Committee hearing on Wednesday after Massie asked Garland about the presence of government agents in the crowd on Jan. 6, 2021.

Massie pointed to a video of a testimony that Garland gave before Congress two years ago, when the Kentucky representative asked him about any possible agents in the crowd, to which Garland said it was an ongoing investigation and he could not comment.

SEVEN UNANSWERED QUESTIONS FOR MERRICK GARLAND ABOUT THE BIDEN INVESTIGATIONS

When asked if he could answer that question now, Garland said, "I don't know the answer to that question."

"If there were any, I don't know how many. I don't know whether there are any," Garland continued.

"I think you may have just perjured yourself, that you don't know that there were any. You want to say that again, that you don't know if there were any?" Massie responded.

The presence of government agents from the FBI or other agencies has been a widespread theory among Republicans in the aftermath of the riot at the United States Capitol. The FBI has denied that any individuals convicted in relation to the riots were members of their agency.

Massie pointed at Ray Epps, who is the subject of conspiracy theories, that he is a federal informant and is facing one misdemeanor charge of disorderly or disruptive conduct on restricted grounds.

"The Justice Department prosecutors provided whatever information they had about the question that you're asking. With respect to Mr. Epps, the FBI has said that he was not an employee or informant of the FBI," Garland said, adding that Epp's court hearing is taking place Wednesday.

"The charge is a joke," Massie said.

The House Judiciary Committee is holding a hearing on the "weaponization" of the Justice Department, one of several House GOP investigations looking into the Biden administration.

Republican committee members focused heavily on the DOJ's role in the investigation into Hunter Biden and asked Garland numerous questions on the details surrounding the appointment of David Weiss as special counsel.
