President Joe Biden talked up his Cadillac to Chinese President Xi Jinping while leaving the Filoli Estate in California following a meeting between the two leaders on Wednesday, alerting Xi to its nickname of "the Beast."
Biden and Xi were walking toward the Chinese president's limousine, shaking hands, when Biden called the limo "a beautiful vehicle." After Xi told Biden that the vehicle was a "homemade" Hongqi sedan, Biden pointed to his mode of transportation.

"Do you know what they call that car? They call it 'the Beast,'" Biden said to his Chinese counterpart, according to the footage from state broadcaster China Central Television.
Xi just responded, "See you tomorrow."
"The Beast" is a 10-ton Cadillac, estimated to be worth around $1.5 million, and it features protections from nearly every attack imaginable, sporting bulletproof glass. It is covered in 5-inch-thick, military-grade armor, while the 8-inch-thick doors feature additional armor. The doors are as heavy as those of a Boeing 757 aircraft.

Xi's vehicle, which is a Hongqi L5, code name N701, is smaller than its American counterpart but offers many of the same protections. The Chinese president's ride is estimated to be worth less than half of "the Beast" at $700,000 and is reportedly equipped with armored plates built to withstand both small arms and rocket fire. It weighs roughly 3.1 tons and can reach over 136 mph thanks to its 6-liter, V-12 turbocharged engine.
The exchange between Biden and Xi came after their hourslong meeting on Wednesday during the four-day Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in California. It was the second in-person meeting of Biden's presidency between the two leaders but their seventh overall engagement with one another.
