The cohosts of The View unleashed a scathing response Wednesday after President Donald Trump accused former President Barack Obama of “treason” and labeled him the “ringleader” of the Russia collusion investigation, prompting Whoopi Goldberg to call the allegations “dangerous.”

Trump’s claims were made Tuesday in the Oval Office, where he accused the former president of orchestrating what he called a yearslong coup against his presidency.

“This was TREASON.… Obama was trying to lead a coup,” he said.

On The View, Whoopi Goldberg didn’t hold back.

“A sitting president just accused a former president of treason. Now, do people realize how serious an allegation this is?” she asked, before referencing the recent Supreme Court ruling that granted broad immunity to presidents, suggesting Obama has the same immunity as Trump. “You have to decide which way you’re going to go.”

Cohost Joy Behar scoffed, suggesting Trump was motivated by envy.

“He’s so jealous of Obama because Obama is everything that he is not: trim, smart, handsome, happily married, and can sing Al Green … better than Al Green, and Trump cannot stand it,” she said to applause.

“Obama still lives rent-free in his head,” cohost Sunny Hostin chimed in, adding that Trump will “never be cool” like Obama.

Meanwhile, Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard added fuel to the fire in a separate White House press briefing on Wednesday, accusing Obama-era officials of leading a “treasonous conspiracy” against Trump. Gabbard said she has submitted documents to the Department of Justice requesting a criminal investigation, though she stopped short of directly calling Obama guilty of treason.

“If you look at the intent behind manufacturing intelligence that contradicts our own agencies’ assessments, and what followed — that’s a yearslong coup attempt and treasonous conspiracy,” Gabbard told reporters.

Obama’s office issued a rare public statement responding to Trump on Tuesday.

“These bizarre allegations are ridiculous and a weak attempt at distraction,” said spokesman Patrick Rodenbush. “Nothing in the document issued last week undercuts the widely accepted conclusion that Russia worked to influence the 2016 presidential election but did not successfully manipulate any votes.”

While Trump and Gabbard press for accountability, The View‘s hosts criticized the president’s rhetoric as reckless.

Goldberg warned, “What you’re saying is as dangerous to this nation as anything.”
