NextImg:The View mourns ‘disrespectful’ removal of Biden but touts ‘power of black women’ for Kamala Harris - Washington Examiner

The View hosts reacted with mixed emotions to the news of President Joe Biden dropping out of the election over the weekend.

“I have to distinguish between Joy Behar at 81 and President Biden. I’ve said before it’s not the number. It’s how the number looks on the person,” co-host Sarah Haines said Monday.

“Being a host on The View is different than being the president,” co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin clarified.

Co-host Whoopi Goldberg felt the pressure to push out the president over his age was “disrespectful.”

“It is saying to people of a certain age — because that’s what the messaging has been: ‘You’re old. You’re doddering.’ It really pissed me off. Not because I’m as close,” Goldberg said. “I felt it was disrespectful.”

Co-host Ana Navarro joked that she hoped the show could spend the “next three weeks” talking about “demented” former President Donald Trump.

Fellow co-host Sunny Hostin also shared a story about how she was on a phone call Sunday night organized by television personality Star Jones.

“The energy is there. Please do not underestimate the power of black women in this,” Hostin said, referring to black female voters and Biden’s endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris.

“Black women, period,” Goldberg interjected.

“Black women, in particular, tend to be the backbone of the Democratic Party,” Hostin added.

Navarro said she was “sad” about Biden dropping out but then “shook it off.”

“I was sad. I have been mad for weeks, but I shook it off because we got to shake it off, ladies and gentlemen,” Navarro declared.

“We’ve got one job to do: We have got to beat Donald Trump and elect the first woman president of the United States! Under no circumstances can we allow the historical opportunity to slip through our fingers again,” she added. “Today, I’m elated. I’m excited. I’m optimistic. I’m ready to go to work. For all of those people asking, ‘Is this country ready for a woman president? Is this country ready for a black woman president?’ Well, you better get ready because Madame Vice President is coming your way!”

Hostin expressed excitement about Harris, “a former prosecutor,” competing against Trump, “a convicted felon.”

Goldberg expressed there has been talk about “black jobs” in the election and is thrilled that “there’s one” going to Harris.

Hostin had high praise for Biden’s legacy as a president after he dropped out of the race Sunday.

“I think that history will note him as one of the greatest presidents that we have had. I really do believe that, and I wasn’t comfortable with the notion that people were forcing him out. I wasn’t comfortable with the cannibalization that I saw in the Democratic Party, but I am comfortable if he made this decision with his inner circle,” she said.
