NextImg:The Shift set to hit theaters: Angel Studios releases new sci-fi faith-based film

EXCLUSIVE — Angel Studios’s latest film The Shift is a modern-day science fiction retelling of the biblical story of Job.

The film is Angel Studios’s first original feature film and features Kristoffer Polaha, from Wonder Woman 1984, Mad Men, and several Hallmark movies, along with Neal McDonough from Yellowstone, and Elizabeth Tabish from The Chosen.

SOCIAL SECURITY UPDATE: FIRST OF DECEMBER DOUBLE PAYMENTS WORTH $914 TO BE SENT OUT IN ONE DAY

Polaha plays the lead character Kevin Garner who toils through the enticing offers of his adversary, The Benefactor, played by McDonough, while attempting to return to the woman he loves. When he resists, Garner is shifted into an alternate totalitarian regime with endless worlds and choices.

“I think people are going to see the movie, and they’re going to be blown away by the fact that it’s a movie about the guy’s integrity and a guy being tested and holding fast to the things he believes in, which is love and faith — you know these two tenets that are always inspiring to watch,” Polaha told the Washington Examiner.

“I also think it’s an action-adventure movie. It’s a sci-fi movie. It’s a romance. So, I think if you’re watching it — if you’re a female and you love the Hallmark movies I do, you’re going to be like, ‘Oh my god, this is like a fun, crazy Hallmark movie.’ And if you’re a dude, you’re just like, ‘I’m all about sci-fi.’ You’re going to love it because of the way that we explore the multi-verse, and the rules that are established, and the shifting, and all the stuff. It just becomes a deeply enjoyable film,” he added. “If you’re a cinema nerd and you love films, you’re going to be like, ‘Yeah, this is a good movie. Like this isn’t a fake film. This is a good movie.’ That’s my hope.”

The Shift was written and directed by Brock Heasley and produced by Ken Carpenter. The film’s production was crowdfunded through Angel Studios’s investors.

“The creative ethos at Angel fostered the opportunity to shape this unique blend of sci-fi, romance, and allegory,” Carpenter said. “They gave us the runway to make a film that charts new territory.”

The Shift is a bold project that defies labels and is unlike anything in the market,” Jeffrey Harmon, Chief Content Officer of Angel Studios, said. “Director Brock Heasley’s dedication, tenacity, and vision reminds me of our history at Angel. Eight years ago, he came up with a concept and made a short film for $500. Then, Brock joined up with our team, an incredible cast, and the Angel Guild to crowdfund and produce a one-of-a-kind project.”

The Shift opens in theaters on Dec. 1.
