Legendary rock band the Rolling Stones announced their first album of original songs in 18 years Wednesday during an event in London with Jimmy Fallon.

Mick Jagger, 80, Keith Richards, 79, and Ronnie Wood, 76, joined the late-night host to announce the album, titled Hackney Diamonds, and debut a music video for a song from the project, "Angry." Hackney Diamonds is set to be released on Oct. 20.

Hackney Diamonds gets its name from the British slang term for shards of glass that remain after a break-in, according to a report.

Playing live music is the "holy grail," Richards said, but recording albums provides an opportunity where "guys can get together and pass around ideas without any interference.

"When it works, it's great."

Jagger said he didn't "want to be big-headed, but we wouldn't have put this album out if we hadn't really liked it."

The band also recognized their late drummer, Charlie Watts, who died in 2021.

"He's No. 4, he's missing, he’s up there. Of course, he's missed incredibly," Richards said, noting that moving on "would have been a lot harder without Charlie's blessing."

The band's last album of original material was 2005's A Bigger Bang. The Stones have mainly released covers, live projects, and compilation albums since then.
