The main stage of the Republican National Convention Monday featured an eclectic roster of speakers, but one speaker, Amber Rose, particularly brought out the party’s internal divisions on social issues.
Rose is a model, rapper, and activist who has made a name for herself as a regular attendee of the so-called SlutWalk, where she has openly discussed her sexual behaviors. Her social media is also full of provocative photographs.
For a political party that has closely aligned itself with established Christian churches and professes to uphold family values in the political arena, inviting Rose to address the convention contradicts everything that the party claims to stand for.
The party and its members have pushed for the removal of pornographic and sexual content from schools, but are openly platforming an individual who has shown little regard for modesty in both word and action.
In fairness to Rose, her remarks at the main stage of the convention Monday night were not objectionable in any way. Her speech largely focused on her previous impressions of former President Donald Trump and why she had come to support him.

“I’m here tonight to tell you, no matter your political background, that the best chance we have to give our babies a better life is to elect Donald Trump president of the United States,” she said. “I’m no politician and I don’t wanna be, but I do care about the truth, and the truth is that the media has lied to us about Donald Trump. I know this because for a long time, I believed those lies.”
Her story is like so many others who were once critics of Trump but later came around to his unique brand of politics. Still, her place on the main stage is a contradiction for a party that professes to champion family values.
