NextImg:The rest of the country is realizing what DC long knew: Biden habitually lies - Washington Examiner

Shortly after the death of his son Beau led him to heed the preference of Barack Obama and cede the 2016 race to Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden underwent the sort of late-stage rebrand that a career politician could only dream of. The plagiarizing, pugnacious swamp monster with a chip on his shoulder was felled by yet another personal tragedy while he served as a second-in-command to the first black president in the nation’s history.

Overnight, the vice president went from the sort of egotistical empty suit whose lifelong legacy is to get an Amtrak named after him to an esteemed elder statesman, the respected white man who proved he was fundamentally decent in playing second fiddle to Obama. He also became the grieving grandfather who stood aside to allow the first female president her turn instead, and then, finally, the standard-bearer of normalcy who returned from a premature retirement to save Democrats first from a socialist nominee and then from the Orange Man Bad.

Of course, those of us with more than a passing familiarity know that Biden never stopped being Biden. As senility has struck the octogenarian with increasing strength, the public is slowly realizing he was never competent. He was never selfless. He was always a jerk, and worst of all for him, he was always a liar.

Donald Trump has consistently led Biden on every single issue except for abortion in the polling, and now, Biden is losing his decisive edge over Trump on character. While voters have conceded for some time now that Trump is far more agile and mentally sharp enough for the presidency, polls indicate that the public no longer views Biden as much more honest than his predecessor.

Although only 22% of voters polled by ABC News/Washington Post/Ipsos said that Trump was more honest and trustworthy than Biden, just 39% said the reverse, as great a share as those who said that neither are. An Economist/YouGov poll also found that a simple majority of voters now say Biden is not trustworthy or honest, with barely a third of voters insisting he still is truthful. While the Pew Research Center published a rosier finding on the integrity front, with 48% of voters saying that Biden is honest, nearly two-thirds also described the leader of the free world as “embarrassing.”

Biden has always had a tenuous relationship with the truth, even before he lost most of his marbles. But the stakes in the mental fitness of the presidency are too high to overlook, and voters who took the press’s promise that Biden could survive a second term at face value are now shocked and horrified, with majorities across polls and demographics now demanding the 81-year old withdraw from the race. The president lied that he had the stamina to survive another four years in the White House, and the media went along with him. Now confronted with the truth, people have correctly admitted they’ve been duped and that Joe Biden is a liar.
