NextImg:The Left's war against the Supreme Court

The Left is throwing yet another temper tantrum. This time, their anger and hatred are being aimed at the Supreme Court .

It’s easy to see why. From overturning Roe v. Wade, ending legal discrimination in college admissions, to affirming free speech rights by saying religious creatives cannot be forced to publish messages they feel violate their religious beliefs, and telling President Joe Biden that he cannot simply wave a magic wand and forgive student debt , the Supreme Court has become a major roadblock for the Left’s agenda. To remove it, the Left has decided to smear the Supreme Court as illegitimate.

TIM SCOTT'S MESSAGING AND STRATEGIES COULD SHIFT DESANTIS OUT OF SECOND PLACE

In a poorly written opinion piece in the Los Angeles Times, Harvard professor Michel Lamont argues that the aforementioned decisions “deprive relatively disadvantaged groups — women, black and brown Americans, LGBTQ+ people, and lower-income college students — of legal and other resources that improve their welfare as well as their sense of belonging. More than just ‘who gets what,’ the court’s rulings affect who feels recognized as a worthy member of our society.”

Let’s unpack this one decision at a time, shall we? First, the Dobbs decision did not outlaw abortion. It returned the decision about abortion back to the states, where it belongs.

There is no constitutional right to an abortion, as even leftist scholars know. The late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, for example, disliked Roe v. Wade, calling it a “faulty decision.” She believed that the decision was too far-reaching and too sweeping, giving pro-life activists a very tangible target to rally against. She said, “My criticism of Roe is that it seemed to have stopped the momentum on the side of change. Roe isn’t really about the woman’s choice, is it? It’s about the doctor’s freedom to practice … it wasn’t woman-centered, it was physician-centered.”

Moving to affirmative action, stating that people of color deserve to be admitted to a college or university with scores lower than people who are not admitted is, in and of itself, racist. Admission to college should be based on merit, not on an effort to make the campus look like a 1980s era ad for Benetton clothing.

Speaking of college, the president seems hell-bent on forcing working Americans to pay the bills of college graduates. Biden’s use of the HEROES Act, a 2003 law that says the government can provide relief when there is a national emergency, allowing it to act to ensure people are not in a worse position financially as a result of the emergency, was blatantly illegal. This act was written to protect military reservists who were called to active duty and could no longer pay their loans, as their military pay did not equal what they were making in the private sector. It was not designed to help petulant children who took out loans thinking they wouldn’t have to repay them.

Lastly, the court’s decision to side with Lorie Smith in 303 Creative was a common sense ruling that all Americans should support. The government should not be able to compel citizens’ speech, period.

The Left has tried to distort this decision and claim that the ruling allows businesses to refuse service to customers based on their attributes. That’s not what the case was about. But even if it were, the Left seems not to have a problem with private businesses choosing to service the customers they want to service when businesses refuse to serve conservatives, as happened to Sarah Huckabee Sanders in the great Red Hen Restaurant controversy of 2018.

The solution in this case is simple. If you think the court’s ruling is unfair, open a bakery, and refuse to serve Catholics looking for a cake to celebrate a first communion or a baptism. Make as many pro-LGBTQIA+ cakes as you want. Let the market decide.

The Left will continue to rant and rave, as they always do. They will threaten to pack the court, force the retirement of judges, or try to impeach judges — all because the Supreme Court refused to let them ham-handedly force their agenda onto the rest of the country.
