Leftists dusted off their pro-Christianity caps this week to blast former President Donald Trump for promoting something that all people used to stand for.
On Tuesday, Trump endorsed the “God Bless the USA” edition of the Bible. Partnering with Lee Greenwood, the singer of “God Bless the USA,” it is printed in the same kind of binding as the Constitution, the Declaration of Independence, and the Pledge of Allegiance.
Trump explains in his video why he is endorsing this particular edition: “Religion and Christianity are the biggest things missing from this country, and I truly believe that we have to bring them back, and we have to bring them back fast.”
“This Bible is a reminder that the biggest thing we have to bring back to make America great again is our religion.”
The book’s website clarified that it is “not owned, managed or controlled by Donald J. Trump, The Trump Organization, CIC Ventures LLC or any of their respective principals or affiliates” and is “not political and has nothing to do with any political campaign.”
Regardless, leftist activists and supporters have hopped on the media bandwagon in calling Trump hypocritical, sacreligious, and a profiteer, all while posing as allies of Christianity.
The Rev. Al Sharpton shared his disgust on an MSNBC panel. “People ought to realize how offensive this is to those of us that really believe in the Bible,” he said. “Of all times you want to hustle using the Bible, why would you do it during Holy Week?”
He argued that conservative Christians “ought to be defrocked if they would even try and act like this is nothing but what it is, and that’s a hustle.”
“For those in the evangelical community to not come out and say ‘wait a minute, during Holy Week, that’s a step too far,’ makes us wonder where their commitment really is.”
For someone who is supposedly this passionate about Holy Week, Sharpton had no problem condemning those who celebrated it in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic. He called in-person services “reckless and disgraceful,” saying that “we must put the health of the public above anything else,” even the resurrection of Christ, apparently.
“We are just days away from Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday and these pastors, who willfully ignore the gravity of this pandemic and the seriousness of social distancing, are not doing God’s work by risking the lives of innocent people.” I guess God’s work no longer includes promoting the cause of our salvation during Easter.
Former Rep. Liz Cheney, who refers to herself as “constitutional conservative” in her X bio, gave Trump’s endorsement a snide response: “Happy Holy Week, Donald. Instead of selling Bibles, you should probably buy one. And read it, including Exodus 20:14.”
That verse, “Do not commit adultery,” is the Seventh Commandment. She likely cited it in reference to Trump’s ongoing hush money trial involving pornographic performer Stormy Daniels.
Cheney is no stranger to referencing the Bible for political clout. In May 2021, she initiated a prayer in the House chamber: “Help us to understand the gravity of this moment. Help us to remember that democratic systems can fray and suddenly unravel. When they do, they are gone forever.”
“Help us to speak the truth and remember the words of John 8:32 — ‘Ye shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free.’ May our world see the power of faith.” Moments later, she was ousted from Republican leadership for criticizing Trump for the Capitol riot of January 6, 2020.
The hosts of The View could not miss a chance to take a crack at Trump, either. Sunny Hostin, who calls herself a “practicing Catholic,” mockingly said, “It’s Holy Week, and so I cannot say what I would like to say.” Joy Behar called Trump’s announcement “hypocrisy at its most religious.”
Behar then implied that all patriotic Christians were fascists: “I’m not sure who said it, ‘When fascism comes to America it will be waving a flag and holding a Bible.’ That is what we are looking at right now.”
In 2019, Hostin shamed traditionalist Catholics for being faithful and condemning the LGBT movement: “This practicing Catholic will be supporting and attending LGBTQ Pride events. And so will my Catholic children. You should be ashamed.”
In 2018, Behar mocked former Vice President Mike Pence’s faith. She said, “It’s one thing to talk to Jesus. It’s another thing when Jesus talks to you. That’s called mental illness, if I’m not correct, hearing voices.”

If anything, Trump’s endorsement of this patriotic Bible edition acknowledges a dangerous truth. America used to be one nation under God, but now it has become Godless. Many citizens are not even aware of what is actually written in the Bible and our founding documents, but they should be.
The more the Left pretends to care about Christianity despite regularly promoting things antithetical to it, the more clear its hostility towards the faithful becomes. One need only read Matthew 7:15-16: “Be on guard against false prophets who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravaging wolves. You’ll recognize them by their fruit.”
