Actress Julianna Margulies has apologized for recent comments she made against black and LGBT people, clarifying that she did not mean to "sow further division."
Margulies, known for her roles in the television shows The Good Wife and The Morning Show, said on a podcast on Nov. 20 that black and LGBT people were not sharing the same support for Jewish people during the Israel-Hamas conflict, whereas Jews have shown support for black and LGBT people. The actress, who is Jewish, issued a statement clarifying that she was "horrified" that her comments offended "communities I truly love and respect.”

“I want to be 100% clear: Racism, homophobia, sexism, or any prejudice against anyone’s personal beliefs or identity are abhorrent to me, full stop," Margulies's statement read. "I did not intend for my words to sow further division, for which I am sincerely apologetic."
The actress stated on The Back Room with Andy Ostroy that people in the black community are not standing in support of the Jewish community, which she took to mean "they just don’t know or they’ve been brainwashed to hate Jews." She also criticized young LGBT people for supporting Gaza and for "spewing this antisemitic hate."
On Margulies's Instagram page, she posted a statement a couple of days after the podcast that stated anyone who is "overwhelmed by antisemitism" should remember that Jewish people "literally rose from the ashes."
"Being Jewish and alive is nothing short of magic," the statement said.

Margulies is the latest celebrity to issue an apology about statements made in relation to the Israel-Hamas conflict. On Saturday, actress Susan Sarandon apologized for "diminishing" the history of antisemitism during her speech at a New York protest when she claimed that Jewish people were "getting a taste of what it feels like to be a Muslim" in the United States in the wake of the Hamas attack on Oct. 7.
In mid-November, it was reported that the Hollywood agency UTA had dropped Sarandon in the wake of her comments. She had been represented by the agency since 2014.
