The author of the young adult novel The Fault in Our Stars has expressed disapproval over an Indiana library's decision to remove the book from its young adult section, describing the decision as "ludicrous."

The novel, written by John Green and published in 2012, has now been placed in the "general" section of the Hamilton East Public Library in Fishers, Indiana. The relocation of the book from one section to another comes after the library removed multiple books from its young adult and teen sections, according to a report.

"This is ludicrous," Green wrote on social media. "It is about teenagers and I wrote it for teenagers. Teenagers are not harmed by reading TFIOS. This is such an embarrassment to the city of Fishers."

The Fault in Our Stars is based on a true story of a teenage girl named Hazel who is diagnosed with cancer. She then befriends a boy named Augustus at a support group, and the two proceed to form a relationship.

Earlier this year, John Helling, the library's deputy director, stated that the library's staff members were checking books in the teen section for any containing material not age-appropriate. Content that would be considered not age-appropriate by a policy of the library includes nudity, alcohol or drug use, repeated swearing and profanity, depictions of violence or incitement to violence, and any kind of sexual content.

Teenagers and young adults are still allowed to check these books out, though they will have to find them in the new section.

The Fault in Our Stars is a New York Times bestselling book and was adapted into a film that was released in 2014. The film adaptation stars Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort as the two main leads.
