Sean and Leigh Anne Tuohy have announced they intend to end the conservatorship between them and Michael Oher days after he filed a lawsuit claiming the Tuohy family never adopted him.

The couple's lawyer, Randall Fishman, said on Wednesday that the Tuohys will enter a consent order to end the conservatorship. Attorneys for the family have also said the family and Oher have been estranged from each other for roughly 10 years, according to the Associated Press.

Steve Farese, a lawyer for the Tuohy family, said Oher has become “more and more vocal and more and more threatening” over the past decade and that his lawsuit and the situation it has caused is “devastating for the family.”

Sean and Leigh Anne Tuohy stand on a street in New Orleans, Feb. 1, 2013. Oher, the former NFL tackle known for the movie The Blind Side, filed a petition on Monday, Aug. 14, 2023, in a Tennessee probate court accusing Sean and Leigh Anne Tuohy of lying to him by having him sign papers making them his conservators rather than his adoptive parents nearly two decades ago.

The lawyers for the family claim Oher was aware he was not adopted by the family, pointing to a book Oher wrote in 2011, I Beat the Odds: From Homeless, to the Blind Side, and Beyond, in which the former football player refers to the Tuohys as his conservators three times. The statements in the book come as Oher claimed in his lawsuit that he found out in February this year that his conservatorship with the Tuohys "provided him no familial relationship" with the family.

Oher filed a petition in a Tennessee court alleging that “a central element of the story was a lie concocted by the family to enrich themselves at his expense." The former football player claimed the Tuohy family members made millions of dollars off business deals after tricking him into becoming his conservators. Oher signed conservatorship paperwork after he turned 18 years old in 2004.

"The lie of Michael's adoption is one upon which Co-Conservators Leigh Anne Tuohy and Sean Tuohy have enriched themselves at the expense of their Ward, the undersigned Michael Oher,” the 14-page petition submitted in a probate court in Shelby County reportedly said.

The petition by Oher seeks to end the conservatorship and demands Oher receive his fair share of wages that the Tuohy family made using his name. Attorneys are also seeking an injunction to bar the Tuohy family from using his name.

The Blind Side, a film featuring Sandra Bullock as Leigh Anne Tuohy that won her an Oscar for best actress in 2010, grossed around $309 million on a $29 million budget when it was released in 2009. Allegedly, none of the profits made by the film went to Oher.
