NextImg:The Biden lawfare campaign is not just for Trump - Washington Examiner

The Democratic Party’s shameless weaponization of the criminal justice system against its political opponents continued unabated on Thursday as talk show host Steve Bannon, a vocal supporter of former President Donald Trump, was ordered to report to prison.

A federal judge ruled on Thursday that Bannon, who hosts the podcast show War Room, must report to prison on July 1 to serve a four-month prison sentence after he was convicted of a contempt of Congress charge for refusing to comply with a subpoena by the now-defunct House Jan. 6 committee.

Bannon is the second person to go to prison for defying a subpoena from the committee. Former Trump White House official Peter Navarro is serving a four-month sentence for the same charge and is set to be released next month.

The ruling, which comes a week after Trump was found guilty by a Manhattan jury on dubious charges, is another example of the Democratic Party’s lawfare campaign extending far beyond the former president.

While Navarro and Bannon were held in contempt by a vote of the House of Representatives, there can be no mistake that these charges and prison sentences are another facet of the Democratic Party’s weaponization of the judicial system to prosecute political opponents.

Attorney General Merrick Garland and the Department of Justice are defying multiple congressional subpoenas, and he has vowed to stand firm even if the House of Representatives votes to hold him in contempt.

But even if Garland is held in contempt, he will never face criminal charges inside a federal courtroom as Bannon and Navarro have because, under the Biden administration, the standards of justice that apply to Republicans do not apply to Democrats like Garland.

One only needs to look at recent history for proof. Former Attorney General Eric Holder and IRS official Lois Lerner were both held in contempt of Congress during the Obama administration, but no charges were ever filed. But as soon as Bannon and Navarro were held in contempt, the Garland Department of Justice eagerly filed charges and secured convictions.

The message of selective prosecution is clear. Those who oppose the Democratic Party regime are on thin ice, and any excuse to launch a criminal prosecution will be quickly seized on, even if it means jailing octogenarian concentration camp survivors for praying outside of abortion clinics or a podcast host on a misdemeanor that no one is ever prosecuted for.
