NextImg:The antisemitic protests on campuses are not ‘anti-war’ - Washington Examiner

Even as liberal media acknowledge that there is some craziness coming from college protesters over the war in Gaza, they can’t help but paint the protests as something they are not: anti-war.

This framing of the protests has become more popular recently, a last-gasp attempt by many in media to salvage the reputation of the protests as stories of antisemitic chants or Jewish students being assaulted continue to come to light. The Associated Press, Reuters, and Politico are among the outlets describing these protests as “anti-war,” with that framing being particularly popular at the Associated Press.

This is not the case. If the antisemitic chants, the support of “intifada” or actual terrorist groups, or the fact that organizations leading these protests blamed the Oct. 7 Hamas massacre of Israeli civilians on Israel has not made it clear enough, these protests are not opposed to war. They are only opposed to a war that Israel is winning.

If you are running down a list of descriptors for these protests, “antisemitic” is the most obvious one. “Pro-terrorist” or “terrorist-sympathizing” work as well. But the only way these protests are “anti-war” is if, in many cases, you reject their own words and ascribe the label to them just because some of them chant for a ceasefire that only the ignorant think Hamas would follow. The protesters range from virulent antisemites who are cosplaying revolutionaries to ignorant followers who are out there just because their social media feeds say they should be and find themselves promoting antisemitism because the chants are catchy.

Either way, these protests are proving to be anything but “anti-war.” After all, how could you call Israel a colonizing terrorist state that is committing genocide and not support the “military actions” Hamas takes in response? Again, this isn’t “anti-war,” it is just anti-war as long as Israel is winning.

Liberal media are sympathetic to these protests, as their coverage has made it clear that they, too, take the side, and word, of terrorists over Israel. They are raising red flags over the antisemitism on display because they fear these protests will harm President Joe Biden’s reelection campaign, yet many of them still can’t help but try and help these protesters by labeling them as “anti-war.” It is untrue, and it has been untrue since Oct. 7.
