


A 7-year-old child was rescued after Texas Department of Public Safety troopers captured a human smuggler following a high-speed chase.
The incident occurred on Nov. 23 after the driver of a Mazda MX-3 refused to stop and drove on the wrong side of the road in Kinney County at roughly 110 mph, according to footage of the incident and a release shared Thursday.

"[Abel Vasquez] eventually lost control and crashed into a barrier at Laughlin Air Force Base," the release said.
After slamming into the barrier, Vazquez exited the vehicle, and people were soon pulled out.

"The Driver was arrested and charged with evading arrest, smuggling of persons, and smuggling of persons younger than 18 years of age," the release indicated.
"Five illegal immigrants, including a 7-year-old child, were referred to U.S. Border Patrol," it added.
