Texas Children's Hospital has stopped its child sex-change program after the state passed a ban on the procedures last week, according to an internal hospital memo.
Mark A. Wallace, the hospital's president and CEO, distributed a memo saying that Texas's new law, Senate Bill 14, will require them to alter their treatment options for children with gender dysphoria.

The memo was obtained through a whistleblower by the Manhattan Institute's Christopher Rufo, who last week discovered the hospital was continuing its pursuit of child transitions despite having publicly declared they would stop. Rufo's team told the Washington Examiner they verified the authenticity of the memo and the identity of the whistleblower.
Wallace called the development, by way of a bill that bans procedures and prescriptions for child transitions, "immensely heart-wrenching."

"We all remain dedicated to educating and amplifying the importance of safe, high-quality transgender medicine programs," Wallace continued, telling "faculty and staff who have devoted their lives to gender-affirming care at Texas Children's that you have our unwavering commitment and support."
Upon the revelation that Texas Children's was continuing transitions, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton launched an investigation into the hospital, giving investigators full subpoena power.
"I’ve been clear that any ‘gender transitioning’ procedures that hurt our children constitute child abuse under Texas law,” Paxton said, announcing the investigation. “Recent reports indicate that Texas Children’s Hospital may be unlawfully performing such procedures, and my office it is working to uncover the truth.
"Though many unhinged activists compromising the healthcare field think otherwise, children are not to be treated as science experiments," Paxton continued, saying he would launch investigations into any institution pursuing child sex changes. "Doctors and hospitals should not be pushing mutilative and irreversible ‘gender transitioning’ procedures that will negatively impact innocent children for the rest of their lives."
Texas joins many other states in the country both outlawing such procedures for children and investigating the entities that were providing them.

The Lone Star State is also the latest in a movement of conservative lawmakers to question the medical efficacy of the treatment model, which has been roundly criticized by a growing number of European countries.
