Authorities are searching for a teenager who pleaded guilty in connection to the shooting of Washington Commanders running back Brian Robinson Jr. The teenager, who had been staying at his parents' house, failed to show up for his sentencing hearing on Wednesday.
The teenager, who was 17 at the time of the shooting, pleaded guilty in January to assault with a dangerous weapon and carrying a pistol without a license. He agreed to be placed at a juvenile rehabilitation center until he turned 20 as part of a deal he cut with prosecutors.

A second teenager, who was 14 at the time, also pleaded guilty and was sentenced to the facility until he turned 21. The younger teenager also admitted to voluntary manslaughter in the October 2022 shooting death of 15-year-old Andre Robertson, who was killed on a porch in northeastern Washington.
Authorities claimed the pair tried to rob the professional footballer while he was leaving a store on Aug. 28. The 17-year-old chased Robinson, but the athlete grabbed him and tore the gun out of his hands. The 14-year-old then opened fire, hitting Robinson twice — once above the knee and once near his hip.

An attorney for the older teenager did not say where his client was or how he evaded authorities despite having an ankle monitor during Wednesday's hearing. His mother, who was at the hearing virtually, asked that her son be placed in a psychiatric hospital, a request Judge Robert Salerno of the Superior Court of the District of Columbia said he may consider after the teenager is taken into custody or has surrendered.
