Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) credited the U.S. strikes against Iran for “protecting” Israel and America, an effort that he implied the Democratic Party hated.

President Donald Trump ordered three of Iran’s nuclear sites destroyed by six 30,000-pound bunker-buster bombs and 30 Tomahawk cruise missiles Saturday. Cruz commended Trump for “acting precisely” on Fox News’s Fox and Friends Monday.

“It’s important to understand what happened Saturday night was about protecting our ally Israel, yes. It was even more so about protecting America,” Cruz said. “The Democrats are dishonest about it. Today’s Democratic Party hates Israel. So when we engage with Iran, they say it’s all Israel, it’s all Israel.”

The targets included the Fordow fuel enrichment plant, an underground facility near Qom. Submarines shot the missiles at the Natanz and Isfahan nuclear facilities.

There were no American fatalities that resulted from the attack. Meanwhile, since Israel launched strikes against Iran last week, Iran has reported over 400 deaths and Israel 24.

“I believe if they had a nuclear weapon, odds are high they would use it to murder millions of Americans,” Cruz continued. “The ayatollah tells us what he thinks, chants death to America, refers to Israel as little satan and America as the great satan.”

Cruz claimed Israel had the support of the U.S. in its initial strikes against Iran once negotiations around its nuclear program soured. At the time, Trump rebutted allegations that the U.S. Armed Forces were involved in Israel’s attacks on nuclear sites in Tehran.
