NextImg:Target issues response to viral video regarding Black Friday pricing


Target responded to viral videos that accuse the outlet of misleading consumers over its Black Friday deals.

TikTok videos have shown people taking off the "Black Friday Deals" signage of items at Target stores, revealing that the item's price didn't change on Black Friday. One example shown was a set of television sets. It showed the TVs at $429, and upon removing the Black Friday signage, the price was still $429.

"In fact, the TVs were on sale before Black Friday as part of our early Black Friday sales," a statement from a Target representative read. "We continued to offer those items at the same discount during Black Friday, but updated the signage to reflect the extended timing."

The representative stated that Target started its Black Friday deals in late October to give shoppers "flexibility" when shopping for deals this Christmas season.

"We also offer a Price Match Guarantee, and will match the price of any item purchased by a guest that is offered at a lower price later in the season," the representative wrote.

Another TikTok video showed a user peeling back a price sticker on a pair of pants, with the front sticker showing a price of $30. Upon peeling back this sticker, a sticker underneath showed the price was originally $25.

Target's pricing for Black Friday is not the only controversy the outlet has faced recently, as CEO Brian Cornell said earlier this month that shoppers had given Target "a big thank you" for opting to lock items behind glass doors in certain stores. It comes after Target announced last month it would close nine stores across four major cities in the United States due to rampant crime. These stores include one in New York City, three in San Francisco, three in Portland, and two in Seattle.
