NextImg:SUNY medical school 'indoctrinating' students to score 100% DEI compliance

EXCLUSIVE — The Downstate College of Medicine at the State University of New York cited providing travel stipends for faculty to attend "minority faculty development" meetings as an example of the institution's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion , internal documents show.

The New York medical school included the information in its responses to the Association of American Medical Colleges' Diversity, Inclusion, Culture, and Equity Inventory survey. The college's responses were obtained by the medical watchdog group Do No Harm through a Freedom of Information Act request and were shared exclusively with the Washington Examiner. SUNY Downstate College of Medicine achieved a 100% diversity score in the survey.

The survey measures medical schools' commitment to DEI through several yes or no questions related to institutional policies, curriculum, faculty and student programs, affirmative action policies, and even lobbying.

In response to a question that asked what institutional professional development programs were available for faculty of "underrepresented backgrounds," the Brooklyn-based medical school said, "The COM provides stipends for faculty to attend the AAMC annual meetings for minority faculty development."

The medical school's responses, which also touted the school's "comprehensive plan for promoting diversity and inclusion in the medical admissions process" and student affinity groups, earned the institution a 100% on the survey, indicating "substantial diversity, inclusion, culture, and equity efforts."

In a statement to the Washington Examiner, Do No Harm Chairman Dr. Stanley Goldfarb blasted the medical school for achieving a 100% score on the survey.

"While a 100% approval rating for DEI compliance might be considered by some to be a good performance, in fact, it is a disaster," Goldfarb said. "It means that the school is indoctrinating both its students and its faculty in a series of activities, which suggest that they should treat one group of patients differently than another based on their skin color."

Goldfarb said SUNY Downstate's responses indicated that the institution was incorporating critical race theory into its medical education.

"100% compliance means that the school is in agreement with the key elements of critical race theory applied to medical education and healthcare," he said. "That theory demands adherence to the precept that past discrimination requires current discrimination to remedy the previous injustices. The school should be focusing on improving health care for all, and not focusing on racial groups or indoctrinating its students into this harmful political ideology."

SUNY Downstate did not respond to a request for comment from the Washington Examiner.
