Actor Brian Cox dismissed the idea of religion, criticizing the Bible as “propaganda.”
Cox, best known for playing Logan Roy on HBO’s Succession, discussed how he believes religion is holding back humanity while appearing on the Starting Line Podcast. He suggested religion was created as “a control issue,” adding that humanity ought to embrace a more matriarchal leadership. Cox said religious beliefs make people resistant to matriarchy, referencing how the Bible states that God created Eve from Adam in the book of Genesis.
“The propaganda goes right the way back. The Bible is one of the worst books ever, for me, from my point of view because it starts with the idea that Adam’s rib, this woman was created, and they’ll believe it cause they’re stupid enough,” Cox said.
Cox added that people do need a form of truth in life but that the Bible is not the truth and is instead “a mythology.”

The actor is no stranger to making controversial statements. Last year, he criticized “woke culture” for pointing out “too readily” the inadequacies in people. Cox argued that social media has played a major role in the rise of people being easily offended.
Succession ended its four-season run in May 2023, with 2.9 million people tuning into the series finale.
