Taylor Swift has become to America what “bread and circuses” were to the Roman Empire (which is just one of the many reasons you should still probably be talking about the Roman Empire, but I digress). She’s a talented singer and entertainer and, based on the records she broke over the summer, adored by many people nationwide. But we need to stop giving her so much attention — especially those who care to protect the lives of the unborn.
Taylor Swift staunchly opposes protecting the life of babies in the womb and repeatedly expressed her support for terminating pregnancies. And, seemingly on every other issue, her political allegiances lie somewhere close to the left of Leon Trotsky.
NO AID FOR EGYPT UNTIL IT TAKES GAZA REFUGEES
Consider her history in which Swift slammed Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) as “Trump in a wig” and promoted radical LGBT ideology, even writing the song “You Need to Calm Down” as an ode to the community. She’s advanced the “systemic racism” myth and is a staunch proponent of gun control. Just as the Romans used “bread and circuses” to satisfy the instant gratification needs of a populace with food and entertainment and manipulate the public opinion of the populace, Swift uses her celebrity to gain favor by appealing to people’s superficial and self-indulgent desires. Swift uses this power to influence and promote left-wing political dogma.
Granted, the focus on Swift stems from the recent fixation on her by the National Football League. The country has become arguably more obsessed with the pop princess since beginning a romantic relationship with Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce. Throngs of people have been astonished, as if a famous female singer had never dated a professional football player (see Jessica Simpson, Carrie Underwood, and Whitney Houston).

Nevertheless, the increase in exposure is detrimental to conservatism and Republicanism. As Swift’s influence increases, so does her platform. This means a greater impact on societal culture. If one identifies as a conservative or Republican and values the lives of babies in the womb, it doesn’t matter how catchy her tunes are, supporting Swift in any way helps reinforce support for her left-wing ideals and values.
Swift is a mega-talent and superstar, and scores of people will admire her. It is inevitable and undeniable. However, conservatives and Republicans should prioritize principle over the entertainment pleasures that come with Swift fandom and stop giving her so much adoration and attention. Failure to do so will hamper the efforts to keep the values many people on the Right claim they hold near and dear to their hearts.
