A grant program is being offered for California residents enrolled in education, and a nonprofit organization is seeking to hire ambassadors who can spread the word about this program.

The Golden State Education and Training Grant Program, which will be directed at people who lost their jobs during the coronavirus pandemic, is being promoted by the Foundation for California Community Colleges, also known as FoundationCCC, and the California Student Aid Commission. The program will give one-time grants of $2,500 to those who seek to reenter the workforce. To help promote this grant and offer it to as many people as possible, both the FoundationCCC and the commission are offering stipends of $1,000 to people who become ambassadors for this grant program, according to FoundationCCC.

This $1,000 stipend will be given to ambassadors who serve from May to September, and ambassadors will also have the option to earn a stipend of $2,000 if they continue to serve from September to June 2024. As part of their service, ambassadors are expected to dedicate 10-12 hours of their time every month to doing outreach through this program.

Those interested in serving as ambassadors must meet several requirements to be eligible. These consist of being 18 or older and being enrolled in at least one unit for both the spring and fall semesters at a California State University, California Community College, or University of California campus.

All ambassador applications should be submitted by April 28. Those selected as ambassadors will have to complete mandatory training sessions, two of which will be virtual and one that will be in-person.

Those who wish to partake in the Golden State Education and Training Grant Program can do so online by submitting an application through their California Student Aid Commission account. For those who do not have one, they can create one using the “first time user” registration option.

To be eligible, an applicant must have lost their job due to the pandemic, have not been enrolled in a training program or institution of higher education at the time they lost their job, and have been unable to get a job that gives them the same or great pay compared to their job prior to the pandemic. Additionally, the applicant must have the criteria to be eligible for a Cal Grant A award, which is for low- and middle-income students with a high school GPA of at least 3.00, and be enrolled in an educational program at either an institution of higher education, an adult vocational, or career training program at a K-12 school or community college.
