Some residents are wondering whether they will get additional stimulus checks in 2023.

Since the start of the coronavirus pandemic in 2020, the federal government has issued three stimulus payments to residents. It is unlikely that a fourth payment in the same vein as the other three will be approved by Congress this year, but it is possible that such a payment could be issued from the state level, according to the Motley Fool.

STIMULUS UPDATE: DIRECT $450 PAYMENT FOR MAINE RESIDENTS TO BE ISSUED BY END OF MARCH

Stimulus payments approved by the state were common in 2022 due to budget surpluses that came from unspent COVID-19 relief funds and surges in state tax revenue. Many of these payments were issued to recipients in the form of tax rebates and inflation relief checks.

The likelihood of stimulus payments receiving approval is much higher at the state level than at the federal level, but it is unknown how many states will offer these payments. Anyone interested in finding out about possible payments can do so by checking state legislation for proposals for payments.

In 2022, Pennsylvania sent out one-time payments worth up to $1,657 thanks to an excess of $140 million from the American Rescue Plan, which was signed into law by President Joe Biden in March 2021.

This year, New Jersey residents have until Feb. 28 to file for a state program that will give them up to $1,500. It will be paid to recipients by May. Maine residents who filed their 2021 taxes last year can expect to receive up to $450 by the end of next month.
