


A small number of musicians living in New York can apply to receive an extra $200 every month.
The payments from the Artist Grants Program will give $200 to six recipients, selected by the Local Sound Collaborative organization, who will receive these payments once a month for 12 months starting December 2023, according to the organization.

Recipients will be allowed to spend this $200 payment in any way they please, including groceries, travel expenses, and buying new equipment for their music, among other needs. This freedom of choice recipients are given in spending their income is because the program is based on a universal basic income model.
To be eligible for this program, an applicant must live in the Greater Rochester area of New York and be at least 18. Additionally, they must identify as a member, worker, or participant within the local music community and demonstrate financial need.

Applications for this program opened on April 3 and will remain open until June 3. Those interested in applying can do so online on the Local Sound Collaborative's website.
The Washington Examiner contacted the organization for comment.
