Alabama will begin sending out tax rebates of up to $300 to eligible residents in nine days, according to the state's Department of Revenue.
The direct payment being sent to residents at the beginning of next month is possible due to the state's budget surplus. This one-time tax rebate for residents in Alabama was announced earlier this year and is set to be delivered beginning on Dec. 1.
To qualify for this rebate, an Alabama taxpayer must have filed 2021 income taxes by Oct. 17, 2022. Nonresidents of the state, trusts, estates, and people claimed as dependents are not eligible for this rebate.
“From the very beginning, it has been my belief that it is the responsibility of government to be good stewards of taxpayer dollars while actively looking for ways to support citizens through tough times,” Gov. Kay Ivey (R-AL) said earlier this month in a statement about the rebate.

"Our country is in the midst of tough times, and Alabama families from all walks of life are unfortunately seeing that their paychecks aren’t going as far as they once did," she added. "Thanks to our unwavering commitment to fiscal responsibility, one-time tax rebates will be with our hard-working Alabamians in time for the holidays."
The tax rebates being sent out next month will be worth $150 for individual filers and heads of households or $300 for married joint filers. The payments will be sent directly to taxpayers via paper check or direct deposit, depending on how they received their tax refund for 2021.
